best ceo in the sustainable water bottle industry
Sarah Kauss
S’well
Sarah Kauss’ 10-year accounting career came to an end when, on a hiking trip, she decided to create a bottle that would keep water cold, look stylish and be sustainable. She used $30,000 of her own savings to found S’well and decided not to raise venture capital so she could remain the sole owner of the company. This has allowed her to build the brand on her own terms, only forming partnerships with business she wants to work with. This has not limited the company, however, and S’well products are now sold in more than 75 countries. Revenue hit $100,000 in 2016, a 10-fold increase from two years earlier. The company also works with charities like UNICEF, (RED) and Drink Up to bring clean water to those who can’t access it.
