MBA – Most bankable asset

In the grip of the most severe global economic crisis since the Great Depression, with more job losses to come, the best thing that can be done is to invest in yourself

We have to fix the old financial system or adapt to the new one. Less risky investments will be taken, investment banks are gone and will be replaced by leading private equity firms or global commercial banking conglomerates. The role of risk management needs to be reviewed and will be certainly different in the future.

As suppliers of ideas and talent to the business community, business schools need to take some responsibility. School faculty members need to reconsider some of the models they have been teaching over the past years. These are great times for participants to return to Universities and Business Schools to re-learn and experience, share new developments from the business world.

One of the major issues which urgently needs our attention is not a buzzword yet: demographics. The world is not only changing economically, but these changes are in fact the consequences of the global demographic changes across the globe. SBS Swiss Business School’s MBA program incorporates all those changes already in its curriculum. Our participants are confronted regularly with the issues of corporate governance, greediness of managers, and ever rising stock prices. In our classroom, we ask participants to make ethical reflections on their decisions and their career progress.

In an economic downturn, companies look for the essentials and cut back on the rest. What a person can do in a situation like that is to look at where it can be more efficient. The MBA degree gives you the right platform from which to extend your business skills.

At SBS, we have not seen a decline in the number of people applying for our MBA program. In fact, and ironically enough, there is no better time than a recession to invest in yourself. An MBA should be considered as your ‘most bankable asset’. It will not only change your personality, but it will mature you as a person and ethical thinker. Our teaching methods are innovative and combine real life with theory and new developments. Participants are asked to work on Action Learning Projects, business plans, case studies, and get exposure to industry.

The full time MBA program is suitable for people who want to dedicate themselves one-hundred percent to studying. The Flex (part time) MBA program is created for people who want to improve their professional skills while keeping their full-time job, fulfilling family requirements and still having time for leisure activities. The Executive (part time) MBA program is designed for people who have a minimum of five years’ work experience and hold managerial positions in companies. This program has a task to provide managers with new approaches to leadership in a changing business environment.

The Distance MBA program is conducted exclusively via distance education and suits students who need to juggle the competing demands of work, family and further education. The Distance MBA program does not require students to attend courses on fixed dates or at fixed locations. We differentiate as a business school from the others based on the attractiveness of Switzerland – a country which is considered year after year as one of the most competitive markets around the globe, and has a high number of multinational enterprises.

Invest in yourself while the recession is at its peak, and then when it’s over you have the right skills to help transform the business environment.
